Sofitel Luxury Hotels has opened the doors on its first hotel in India, the Sofitel Mumbai BKC, located in the city’s bustling Bandra Kurla Complex business district.
Sofitel’s Worldwide CEO Robert Gaymer-Jones said the new Sofitel Mumbai BKC is a shining example of the brand’s expansion strategy, which involves being present in strategic towns and cities in keeping with its new positioning policy.
“I am particularly happy to be welcoming this new flagship hotel to our network,” he said. “The Sofitel Mumbai BKC is a precious asset for the brand both in India and internationally.

In addition to its strategic location in the ‘new’ Mumbai, its architecture and design ensure that this establishment stands out as one of the city’s most modern projects.
Mr Gaymer-Jones added that two future Sofitel projects are also in the pipeline, including one wearing the brand’s newest design oriented label, Sofitel So.
Featuring a contemporary architectural style, the Sofitel Mumbai BKC hotel blends in perfectly with its surrounding urban landscape. The decor has been created by the Franco-Spanish designer Isabelle Miaja who has skilfully combined French inspiration with Indian culture.
When designing this unique hotel, Miaja drew upon references from Indian art including temples, sculptures, and emblematic monuments, while adding an attractive contemporary touch.
Ms Miaja said, “Overall, the architectural design should allow the Sofitel Mumbai to stand out as a successful combination of Indian culture and French style. We have worked with French and Indian artists in order to give the hotel this unique aspect. The most striking feature is a metal elephant weighing several tonnes situated on the terrace of the Jyran restaurant that gives the impression of ‘walking on water’, a memorable image.”
The hotel features six bars and restaurants, including the “Pondichéry Café”, specialising in combinations of Indian and French flavours and the “Jyran”, a restaurant featuring a classical Indian decor and proposing traditional North Indian cuisine.
Sofitel’s “L’Artisan – Épicerie, Pâtisserie, Chocolaterie” provides a place to enjoy chocolate, cooked meats and cheeses just as you would in a typical Parisian cafe, while the ultramodern Bar Diamantaire, pays tribute to India’s diamond traders. Bar Diamantaire features a magnificent design and India’s first wine tower style cellar.
The Sofitel Mumbai BKC offers nine meeting rooms, in addition to a So SPA, a genuine shrine to health and well-being. The hotel also boasts a So FIT fitness centre providing clients with state-of-the-art designer fitness and health facilities and an open-air swimming pool.
